Sankagiri Fort

The fort Sankagiri is located in Tamil Nadu state. The fort lies 50 km away from the south west of the Salem. The history related to this fort explains information about two to three families. The Tipu Sultan which was the son of Hyder Ali, and the Dheeran Cheenamalai the son of Rathina Sakarai are the main two families which were related to this fort.
Points of Attraction:
The fort has 10 walls around the hill. Among these walls the last wall of the fort was built by British. This fort acts as the treasury for the Kongu Mandalam. All the taxes and the gold were kept in this fort by the British. Besides that the fort has two oil godown, one long cave, varadharaja temple, two official buildings, and memorial park for British, Muslims, Soldiers, and the officers. The fort has two sides and out of which one side was easy to climb and other side was difficult to climb. And hence this fort was mainly used by the military base for Tipu Sultan and after that British.
Way to reach there:
The Salem is the main place in Tamil Nadu state and hence it is well connected by all important cities of Tamil Nadu state. There are number of buses and trains are available to reach at Salem. Sankaridurg railway station is the nearest and on the Erode Salem line. From road, you can go through National Highway 47.
